Stage 1 — Launch
Product Hunt launch
The best single-day distribution moment for a solo-founder app, done right.
- 01
Timing
Submit at 12:01 AM Pacific Time on a Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday. This gives you the full 24-hour window and the best community engagement. Prep at least one week before.
- 02
Tagline — the most important copy on PH
Under 60 characters. Says what it does, not what it is called. No jargon ("revolutionary," "AI-powered," "seamless"). Passes the "tell a friend out loud" test.
Tip: Write 5 options, read each one out loud to someone unfamiliar. The one that gets the fastest "oh, that's useful" is your tagline. - 03
Description & gallery
200–260 words. Lead with the pain, not a greeting. Three bullet points on how it works. Social proof if you have it. Gallery: hero image, problem frame, product in action, result, pricing.
- 04
Maker comment
The first comment you post is the highest-read thing on your launch. Write it in advance: who you are, why you built it, what makes it different, what you're giving PH hunters specifically, and one question you want feedback on.
- 05
Day-of execution
Submit at midnight → post maker comment → personal DMs to 20–50 warm supporters → community posts at 8 AM → respond to every comment within 1 hour all day → email list at 6 PM → final sweep at 11 PM.
Tip: Block your calendar for the entire day. Unresponsive makers tank launches.
